I hope you have been enjoying your summer vacation and some much needed R&R with your families. This summer seems to have flown by already. Several of our crew team members have been attending rowing camp at Three Rivers Boathouse along with Mount Lebanon, USC and Allderdice rowers. This camp is a great opportunity to experience different coaching styles and to gain experience in different boats. If your child has not been involved in this camp and would like to give it a try, there are still a few weeks left. The cost is $40 per week and they row from 6:30-9:00 am on Monday thru Thursday. Even if your child is not involved in any camp, I hope that he/she has found a way to keep in shape over the summer.
At the end of year banquet in the Spring, Coach Sands challenged the kids to run a mile in under 8 minutes. He intends to test them as soon as practice resumes on August 20, 2016 at 7:30 a.m. at the Three Rivers boathouse. Yes, practices are starting BEFORE the school year so that we have a few weeks to row together before the Head of the Ohio. With a TRR race at the end of August and the Labor Day holiday interfering with the schedule, we will need as much time as we can get on the water. We want to bring home some more medals this year!
Fall Practice Schedule
Please mark your calendars....once school resumes, the ongoing fall practice schedule will be as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday - 3:15 p.m. after school at Three Rivers boathouse
Saturday - 7:30 a.m.
The plan is to be on the water as much as possible - weather permitting - through November.
- July 30, 2016 9-11 am (existing rowers should arrive at 7:30 dressed in racing attire - Uni for girls and Henley's for boys); we're going to get some video footage before the prospective new rowers show up and get the boats ready, etc.
- August 6, 2016 9-11 am
We have several GoPro cameras that we will be bringing to the Learn to Row sessions. If you happen to have some skills with a GoPro or editing film from a GoPro, please let me know as we could use your help. We really want to put our best foot forward to get kids interested in joining the team.
I plan to send a letter to prospective rowers welcoming them to the team. In order to make it a little more personal, I would like to include testimonials from a few of our experienced rowers. Essentially, we are interested in knowing what made them choose rowing and why they like to row. If your child is willing to help, please send me their brief testimonial so that I can include it in the e-mail to prospective new parents.

Looking forward to a successful racing season with our kids!!! I'll keep everyone updated as information becomes available. Once the season starts, we will need to have a parent meeting to discuss establishing a Board and assigning responsibilities to help ease the workload. All help is greatly appreciated.
