Blade: The end of the oar that is in the water. Most blades are painted with a teams designated colors. Bow: Front of the shell. Bowman: The rower in the bow of the shell. When the shell is coxless, the Bowman issues commands and normally steers. Button: Keeps from slipping through the oarlock. Catch: The beginning of the stroke where the oar is inserted into the water. Check It: Putting blades in water stopping the shell. Same as Hold water. Coxswain: The person who steers and commands the shell. Sits in stern or lies in bow. |
